Yesterday, Millie's Bookshelf joined forces with Falck USA to deliver hundreds of Spanish, English, and bilingual books for the annual Casa Familiar Tres Reyes Festival in the border community of San Ysidro, California. Designed to celebrate the popular Christmas tradition of Three Kings Day, the Casa Familiar event featured traditional foods, performances, and carnival games for community members. Thousands of gifts were provided by local companies and each child left the event with a book to take home.

"Children were eager to get their hands on brand new books. Many kids returned time after time to redeem their prize tickets for a copy of Dog Man or a kid-friendly biography of Justice Sonia Sotomayor. It was a joy to watch!" said Executive Director, Katie Howland.

San Ysidro is located along the U.S.-Mexico border, with many families living or working in both countries. A high proportion of students in the San Ysidro school district are classified as homeless - the highest proportion of any school district in San Diego County.
